Why Boys & Girls Club?
Andrea learned about the Boys & Girls Club through a friend at her school. She actively participates in the Club’s academic support programs, including Power Hour and Edmentum. She is also a dedicated member of Art Club, where she expresses her creativity and builds confidence through hands-on projects.
Achieving & Succeeding:
As a relatively new Club member, Andrea has already demonstrated a strong work ethic, outstanding character, and leadership skills. She has gained confidence and a deeper sense of responsibility. She thrives in a setting that allows her to support her peers while she continues to excel academically. Through Art Club, she also enjoys the freedom to express herself creatively, developing patience, problem-solving skills, and artistic talent. The club has provided her with a place to build friendships, develop teamwork skills, and strengthen her love for learning. Andrea has embraced new opportunities to lead by example. She consistently demonstrates kindness, responsibility, and initiative, making her a role model for other members. Andrea’s dedication to helping others, always doing her best, and expressing her creativity earned her recognition from her teacher, who nominated her for Member of the Month. This honor reflects her commitment to respect, leadership, and integrity, core values of the Boys & Girls Club.
PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
Character & Leadership
One of the Club’s core programs helps youth find their voice through the arts, which unleashes creativity, builds confidence, and provides an outlet for self-expression.
The Club’s ballet and dance ensemble is one example of an arts program. Our talented dance instructor, Ms. Isabel, has been with the program for over 20 years. She brings experience, technique, and creativity to each practice, helping Club members connect with meaningful routines. Interest in the dance program has almost doubled in the past year! With practices held every Tuesday and Thursday, dancers are showing strong dedication while learning to work as a team and express themselves through movement.
Programs in this core area include: Amazing Artists, BGC Improv, Dance Ensemble, Music and Creation Stations.

Health & Life Skills
Wellness and prevention programs encourage youth to develop healthy habits, learn how to make positive choices, and take personal responsibility for their actions. All Club members participate in the SMART CENTS program which helps them build their understanding of money and how to use it wisely. A recent highlight was the Oreo Currency activity, which gave younger Club members mini-Oreos as make-believe money to “buy” everyday items such as groceries, clothes, gas, and more.
It is important for Club members to learn how money works so they have the tools to make smart choices in the future. Understanding the value of currency helps them build good saving and spending habits, plan for their needs, and avoid financial mistakes. Learning these skills at an early age gives them the confidence to handle real-world situations as they mature.
Programs in this core area include: Mr. & Mrs. Manners, L.E.A.D. (Law Enforcement Against Drugs), and SMART Moves
