In the Spotlight: Junior Women of Initiative
The June issue of Spotlight News Magazine features a terrific story about the Boys & Girls Club’s Junior Women of Initiative program. Launched in 2002 as a unique mentoring partnership between the Boys & Girls Club and Women’s Foundation of Collier County, the program helps middle school girls build their self-esteem, confidence and personal awareness while building vital life skills necessary for future success.
Spotlight News, which circulates in homes from Marco Island through Estero, features one of our dynamic leaders, Tasheekia Harris, and other strong female role models who are guiding teenagers and pre-teens into the future.
Update: Summer Camp Sponsorships
Summer camp is underway at the Boys & Girls Club, and thanks to our generous supporters, students ages 6 to 18 have a safe place to go this summer.
The Club’s “Sponsor a Camper, Change a Life” initiative generated 160 sponsorships, each valued at $500, that allow students from lower-income families to afford summer camp. These programs are vital for a youth’s academic, social and emotional development.
In addition to numerous individuals and couples, the Club also received a $1,500 grant from Walmart and the Walmart Foundation to sponsor three students. Through the local community grants program, Walmart focuses its philanthropic support on nonprofit organizations that are creating opportunity, advancing sustainability and strengthening community, as well as its Center for Racial Equity.
Thank you to each of our donors for making Summer Camp a reality for the students of Collier County?
