CORE AREA

Career Exploration & Workforce Readiness

Our Career Exploration, College, and Workforce Readiness initiative prepares youth to imagine, plan, and achieve their future. The program is intentionally scaffolded so that members progress through a sequence of experiences, from discovering personal interests and exploring career pathways to developing essential skills, gaining hands-on practice, and earning credentials that support both college success and long-term workforce readiness.

What Career Exploration & Workforce Readiness Offers

The Journey

Exploring Interests and Career Pathways

Middle and high school youth begin by exploring career interests and future possibilities through Transfr VR Career Trek, offering access to more than 300 career options, along with guest speakers, employer-led career talks, and industry panels. These experiences help youth connect personal interests to real-world careers and postsecondary pathways, including college, technical training, and certification programs.

Life & Workforce Readiness Skills

Teens build essential workplace competencies such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving, conflict resolution, and time management, while also gaining practical life skills that support independence. These include driver safety, financial literacy, and home economics, ensuring youth are prepared for both college success and entry into the workforce.

Hands-On Experiences

Members gain meaningful, real-world exposure through job shadowing, career intensives, and work-based learning opportunities in fields such as:

  • Education and Childcare
  • Office and Business Operations
  • Sports Coaching and Recreation
  • Culinary Arts, including hands-on experience through the Blue CanTEEN Food Truck
  • Entrepreneurship, including Artists to Entrepreneurs
  • Healthcare, Automotive, and Drafting through partnerships with Lorenzo Walker Technical College

Credentialing and Employment

Older teens can earn industry-recognized credentials, such as CPR and First Aid certification, and participate in paid work experiences that build résumés, strengthen employability, and provide a strong foundation for college, training, or immediate employment.
