History of Youth of the Year
Established in 1947, Youth of the Year is Boys & Girls Club of America’s premier recognition program for Club members, promoting service to Club, community and family; academic success; strong moral character; life goals; and poise and public speaking ability. Our program is implemented year-round to foster the highest development of young people’s character, personal growth and leadership qualities.
For years, our Youth of the Year program has honored and celebrated the Club’s most inspiring teens and their incredible journeys. Each year, stories of outstanding leadership, service, academic excellence and overcoming obstacles have made Youth of the Year the premier leadership and recognition program for Collier County teens. These amazing young people represent the voice of hope for our community. Inspiring all kids to lead. To succeed. To inspire.
The Boys & Girls Club of Collier County Youth of the Year program recognizes outstanding teen leaders and provides meaningful scholarship support at every stage. All selected participants are eligible to receive a $1,000 scholarship upon successful completion of the program. Finalists are awarded $2,500 in scholarship funding, and the Club’s Youth of the Year receives a $5,000 scholarship and advances to compete at the state level.
State winners receive additional scholarship awards and advance to regional competitions. Five regional winners each receive a $10,000 scholarship and compete at the national level. The National Youth of the Year is awarded up to an additional $50,000 in scholarship support and has the opportunity to meet the President of the United States.
