TITLE: Dance Instructor

Primary Function
The Part-Time Dance Instructor provides engaging, age-appropriate dance instruction that promotes creativity, physical fitness, self-confidence, discipline, and artistic expression. The instructor plans and leads structured dance classes that expose members to a variety of dance styles while developing coordination, teamwork, performance skills, and a lifelong appreciation for movement and the performing arts.
Working collaboratively with the Program Director and other Youth Development Professionals, the Dance Instructor helps create a welcoming and inclusive environment where every member is encouraged to participate, grow, and express themselves through dance in alignment with the Boys & Girls Club of Collier County’s mission to empower all young people to reach their full potential as productive, caring, and responsible citizens.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
Prepare Youth for Success
- Plan and deliver engaging, age-appropriate dance instruction for elementary, middle, and high school youth as assigned.
- Teach the fundamentals of dance, including rhythm, timing, coordination, balance, flexibility, musicality, and movement techniques.
- Introduce members to a variety of dance styles, which may include hip-hop, jazz, ballet, contemporary, cultural, ballroom, Latin, modern, and creative movement based on program offerings and instructor expertise.
- Develop progressive lesson plans that build members’ technical skills, creativity, confidence, and stage presence.
- Promote proper warm-up, stretching, conditioning, and injury prevention techniques during every class.
- Choreograph routines and prepare members for Club performances, showcases, community events, competitions, or special celebrations as appropriate.
- Modify instruction to accommodate varying ages, abilities, and physical skill levels.
- Maintain dance studios and instructional spaces in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
- Monitor music equipment, instructional materials, and program supplies, communicating needs to the Program Director.
- Collaborate with other Club staff to incorporate dance into multidisciplinary programming, cultural celebrations, wellness initiatives, and special events.
- Build positive relationships with members while serving as a positive adult role model.
- Maintain active supervision of members at all times and consistently implement Club behavior expectations and safety procedures.
- Complete attendance records, activity documentation, incident reports, and other required program documentation accurately and on time.
- Administer basic first aid when necessary and immediately report accidents, injuries, or safety concerns according to Club policy.
- Attend required staff meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support Club operations and member success.
 Skills and Knowledge
- Passion for dance education and youth development.
- Strong knowledge of one or more dance styles and instructional techniques.
- Ability to choreograph age-appropriate performances and routines.
- Strong classroom management and youth engagement skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to motivate youth while maintaining a positive and structured learning environment.
- Knowledge of safe dance practices, body mechanics, and injury prevention.
- Ability to adapt instruction for varying ages, abilities, and learning styles.
Physical Requirements / Work Environment
- Ability to actively demonstrate dance movements for extended periods.
- Ability to stand, bend, stretch, jump, kneel, and perform moderate to vigorous physical activity throughout instructional sessions.
- Ability to lift and move equipment weighing up to 30 pounds.
- Work is performed primarily in dance studios, multipurpose rooms, gymnasiums, outdoor activity spaces, and community performance venues.
Safety and Youth Protection Responsibilities
- Maintain active supervision of members at all times.
- Comply with all Boys & Girls Club of Collier County Youth Protection policies, safety standards, and mandated reporting requirements.
- Immediately report safety concerns, incidents, injuries, suspected abuse, or policy violations.
- Foster a physically and emotionally safe environment where all members are treated with dignity, respect, and inclusion.
- Ensure all dance activities are conducted using safe techniques and age-appropriate movements to minimize the risk of injury.
